LAHORE: Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy Richard Hoagland said on Friday that there was no new agreement with Pakistan regarding the reopening of the NATO supply route.

Speaking to the media following the orientation for the winners of Fulbright scholarships for 2013, Hoagland said relations were resumed ‘from the point’ where they had been left in November last year. The envoy added that the reopening of the supply routes would help eliminate the trust deficit in Pak-US relations.
“We welcome Pakistan’s step to reopen the key ground supply line through its border for the NATO forces without demanding any charges. This will further rebuild the Pakistan-US relations,” Hoagland said. “This route is crucial for NATO countries and Afghanistan,” he said. Responding to a question pertaining to the serious criticism of the US media for tendering an apology on the Salala attack, the diplomat said that this was the election year in the United States and media hype is a natural thing.
He added that everything which is being highlighted in the media is not true. “There are differences on the issue of Dr Shakil Afridi and the work of US diplomats but these issues were not part of the recent negotiations between the two countries,” he said. daily times monitor
