PESHAWAR: Nine people, including three paramilitary soldiers and a major, were injured on Wednesday in a remote-controlled blast of an improvised explosive device on the main highway linking Pakistan with Afghanistan, official sources said.
Condition of two injured Frontier Corps personnel, including the major, was stated to be critical at a military hospital in Peshawar.
According to rescue sources, the blast targeted an FC vehicle near an under-construction bridge near Board Bazaar. “It was a remote-controlled blast, which damaged two vehicles,” they said.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility but authorities blamed militants in the neighbouring Khyber tribal district where paramilitary forces are battling banned private militia and Taliban with links to al Qaeda.
The attack on the FC in Peshawar comes days after the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan leader Hakeemullah Mehsud stated that he would carry out strikes in urban areas across the country.
