Shahid Siddiqui, the man who was banished from the Samajwadi Party for interviewing Narendra Modi, is angling for a soft landing in the BJP. He recently met Sushma Swaraj, who took him to party president Nitin Gadkari. If BJP sources are to be believed, Gadkari has not only agreed to admit him to the party but also give him a Rajya Sabha ticket, most likely from Gujarat. Interestingly, the BJP, which has never had more than two Muslim MPs in Parliament, has three under Gadkari — Shahnawaz Hussain, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Najma Heptullah. Gadkari even convened a meeting of the BJP Minority Morcha in the third week of July, where heads of minority institutions in BJP ruled states participated. In Nagpur, Gadkari struck a post poll alliance with the Muslim League in the corporation elections. Two elected corporators of the Muslim League, Ishrat Naheed Mohd Jaleel and Aslam Khan are now part of the BJP's Nagpur Vikas Aghadi.
