KABUL: A suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden car in front of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Kabul, officials and witnesses said.
The bombing took place in front of the NDS entrance near the Sadarat Square, killing and wounding several people, including intelligence agents, a shopkeeper in the area, Hasibullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Director- General of Kabul Hospitals Dr. Kabir Amiri said five of the injured were evacuated to two hospitals. Another injured man was taken to the Kabul Emergency Hospital, according to another official, who did not want to be named.
Windowpanes of nearby shops and in buildings in upscale Shahr-i-Naw locality were smashed as a result of the heavy blast.
Witnesses claimed hearing gunfire after the explosion, but Ministry of Interior spokesman Ghulam Siddique Siddiqui believed security personnel might have fired the shots. Exact casualty figures were yet to be known, he added.
