PESHAWAR: Bombers attacked a police patrol on Monday, killing two officers and wounding two others on the outskirts of Peshawar, police said.
The remote-controlled bomb targeted a van on a routine patrol in Shahabkhel village of Peshawar’s Badhaber suburb. “The bomb destroyed the police van and killed two policemen,” Imran Shahid, a senior police official told AFP. Zarshed Khan, a bomb disposal expert, said two kilogrammes of explosives were used in the device and that two policemen were also wounded.
Peshawar is vulnerable to bomb blasts and Taliban attacks as it runs into the semi-autonomous tribal belt, considered a safe haven for Taliban, al Qaeda and other insurgents fighting both in Pakistan and across the border in Afghanistan. Pakistan says 35,000 people have been killed as a result of terrorism since the 9/11 attacks and the 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan.
