President extends deadline for consensus

President Ram Baran Yadav has given seven more days for political parties to reach a deal on a government of national unity.

The Head of the State extended the deadline after a two-hour-long meeting with top leaders of major political forces, who urged for such an extension.

"We urged the President to grant around six-seven days," UML leader Jhalanath Khanal said after the meeting.

EU grant assistance of Rs 971 m to Nepal

The European Union (EU) has extended a grant assistance of 8.5 million Euro (approximately Rs 971.5 million) to the Government of Nepal to hold election and carry out institutional reforms.



An agreement to this effect was signed between Ministry of Finance and the European Commission to support the Election Commission's ambitious institutional strengthening reform agenda that is built on its recent successes. A separate project implementation document was also signed between Election Commission and UNDP to implement the reform programme.
NC-led election govt only possible if it resolves disputed issues of constitution, Dahal tells Poudel
Chairman of the ruling UCPN (Maoist) party Pushpa Kamal Dahal has told Nepali Congress vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel that the latter's party should not hope to get the leadership of the new government without first forging consensus on disputed issues of new constitution.

The Maoist strongman made this clear during his meeting with NC leader Poudel at his residence in Lazimpat Thursday morning.
