‘Remittances cannot serve as substitutes for external support measures pledged for LDCs’

Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations and Other International Organisations in Geneva Shankar Bairagi on Monday said that remittances as private resources are limited and cannot serve as substitutes for the external support measures pledged for Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

Bairagi said this while highlighting the important contributions of remittances to improve lives and reduce poverty at the 56th Executive Session of the Trade and Development Board of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) being held in Geneva.

UML to step in if NC fails to name PM candidate

UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has said his party was ready to name a candidate for Prime Ministership if Nepali Congress fails to propose its candidate soon.




Speaking at programme organised by Press Chautari in Jhapa, Khanal said, " We are waiting for NC to name its candidate. But if it delays a few more days more, UML is ready to give ab alternative".

PM Bhattarai tells NC prez he is 'ready to pave the way'

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai met Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala Monday morning and assured that he would not come in the way of consensus between the parties.

In the meeting held at Koirala's Maharajgunj residence, Bhattarai is known to have said he was prepared to pave the way if the parties arrived at consensus. He also mentioned that consensus must evolve at the earliest to conduct the fresh Constituent Assembly elections by mid-May
