Controversy hits Javed Miandad on visa despite Dawood's link

New Delhi: Cricketer Javed Miandad's arrival in India has sparked a controversy after the Indian government cleared the visa for the former Pakistani cricketer and top Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official.

However, the government of India has responded that Miandad’s visit could not be termed ‘unreasonable’ as the cricketer was not in prohibitory list.

Ministry of External Affairs has backed the government’s decision to grant visa to former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad to travel to India for the third ODI scheduled for 6th January.

It is worth mentioning here that Shiv Sena had condemned the decision of the government demanding immediate cancellation of the visa.

Miandad’s son Junaid is married to Mahrukh, the daughter of Dawood, who is wanted in India in connection with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case. India has been asking Pakistan to extradite Dawood, whose name also figures in the US’ most wanted list in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad said on Tuesday that he will be witnessing the third One-day International (ODI) against India in Delhi on January 6 and has already received the visa for the same.

"My visa and tickets are ready and I shall be in Delhi for the third ODI match scheduled for Jan 6," he said.
In 2005, it was reported that any requests for a visa by the former captain could be refused due to his son Junaid's marriage to Mahrukh, the daughter of Dawood Ibrahim.
