AMRITSAR: India and Pakistan are set to enter a new era of relations with the implementation of a liberal visa regime between the two nations from Tuesday.
Pakistani nationals above 65 years of age will be given a visa on arrival with immigration officials at the Integrated Check Post at Attari setting up new counters and a small office to facilitate this process. Children below 12 years of age can also get 45-day-visa at the Attari-Wagah check post.
Under the new visa regime which home minister Sushilkumar Shinde and his Pakistani counterpart interior minister Rehman Malik had jointly decided on December 14, senior citizens can visit twice a year up to five places in the country with a gap of a minimum two months.
However, Pakistani visitors will not be able to move freely in India or stay in some states like Punjab, J&K, Kerala and certain other places in the country.
