Blast in Peshawar kills six



PESHAWAR: At least five people were killed and dozens, including a policeman and a boy, were injured in a blast which took place at Peshawar’s university road on Monday morning, DawnNews reported.

According to sources, suspected militants aimed at targeting a police mobile van in the capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The explosion also hit a passenger bus which was moving along the police mobile.




Security forces and police cordoned off the area and shifted the bodies and injured to the Khyber Teaching Hospital.

Farhad Ali, a spokesman for the Khyber Teaching Hospital, confirmed the death toll, adding that “25 to 30 people were also injured”.

Furthermore, Deputy Medical Superintendent Khyber Teaching Hospital Zafarullah Afridi told Dawn.com that five dead bodies and 38 injured were at the hospital. The injured also included a boy and a policeman.

Police said it was probing the nature of the explosion but it appeared to be the result of a planted bomb.

Moreover, media reports were saying that Police Commissioner Peshawar Sahibzada Anees was passing from the same area when the blast took place. However, he appears to have survived, sources from the commissioner house were quoted as saying.
