PPP seen only in ads: Nawaz

MURREE: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has said PPP now exists only in newspaper and TV advertisements because of the flawed and anti-people policies of its government.

“The party adhered to the policies of Musharraf and as a result the country is facing the darkest hour of its history,” he said while addressing an election meeting of his party on the Mall Road here on Sunday.

He said President Asif Zardari complained of criticism against him but how could he be praised for his ‘corruption and bad governance’.

He said the youth supported his party and not the so-called revolutionaries, an apparent reference to Imran Khan whose Tehreek-i-Insaf is contesting elections with the claim of changing the political system.

Mr Sharif said had his government not been toppled by a dictator in 1999, there would have been no crises of energy and law and order. Pakistan was respected in the comity of nations when his government carried out a nuclear explosion, he added.

He said his government had built motorways and other roads to speed up the process of development.

He promised a number of projects for Murree, including gas supply, hospital and large-scale water supply scheme. The town owes its beauty to nearby forests and it could be protected only (by stopping deforestation) by supplying gas to all villages around it.

He said he loved Murree more than any other city in the country and believed that its people would vote for his party.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, PML-N candidates for National Assembly and Punjab Assembly from the area, also spoke on the occasion.
