ASI finds no gold at Unnao fort, stops excavation

Unnao: After weeks of digging in Unnao, the Archaeological Survey of India has finally given up. It has found not an ounce of gold at the historic fort in Unnao despite having gone on an extensive dig after a seer claimed to have dreamt of 1,000 tonnes beneath the surface.

The ASI has only managed to excavate living quarters and pieces of pottery from the Buddhist period at the site. The excavation had begun after a Hindu Seer Sadhu Shobhan Sarkar claimed that he had a dream in which the former king told him about a buried treasure. Raja Ram Bux Singh's fort was believed to be home to a treasure trove of 1,000 tonnes of gold worth Rs 31,000 crore.
