BDS defuses bomb planted outside residence of Anjum Aqeel

ISLAMABAD: The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) on Friday defused a bomb found outside the residence of former MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan who belongs to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) party, DawnNews reported.

Some unknown persons had placed a suspicious bag outside the residence of the former lawmaker located in sector E-11 of the federal capital city, DawnNews quoted an official of the Islamabad police as saying.

The policeman added that upon receiving the information, police and security teams reached the site and the Bomb Disposal Squad was also summoned.

BDS personnel recovered the bomb from the bag and defused it.

At least half a kilogram of explosive material was used in the making of the bomb which was also fitted with a mobile phone detonator.

During the May 2013 general elections, Khan had contested elections from Islamabad's NA-48 constituency which he lost to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf leader Javed Hashmi and was not considered by the PML-N for the by-election after Hashmi vacated the seat.
