India Maldives relation will not be affected by cancellation of GMR contract

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan has expressed confidence that confident that India Maldives relation will not be affected by the cancellation of the GMR contract by MACL.

The President made this remark in an interview to Press Trust of India (PTI). PTI stated that the President also termed the Male airport development contract signed with GMR by his predecessor Mohamed Nasheed’s government as “void ab initio’’.

No confidence motion on President stems from the issue of GMR- Adeeb

Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb has said that the no confidence motion against President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan submitted at the Peoples’ Majlis by MPs representing the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) stems from the stance of the government regarding the issue of the GMR contract.

Presidential Candidate of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Former President Mohamed Nasheed has accused the government of President Dr Mohamed Waheed of cynically used xenophobia, nationalism and religious extremism to terminate the contract with GMR Group regarding the development and management of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.
