NEW DELHI: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm lashed the capital since Monday night, breaking all previous records of single day rainfall in the last 50 years for the month of February.
The heavy rain threw traffic out of gear across the city due to perennial problem of waterlogging. The Met department predicted more rains in the next couple of days in the city.
"It is the highest rainfall in 24 hours in the month of February in the last 50 years," Met department director BP Yadav said.
He said the city received 50 mm of rainfall for a period of 24 hours till 10am.
Vehicular movement was affected across the city including ITO, Vikas Marg, South Extension, Mahipalpur, Hari Nagar, IIT crossing to Adchini, Moti Bagh, Yusuf Sarai Market and Munirka.
Areas such as Badarpur border, Wazirpur industrial area, Ashok Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Mahipalpur, ITO, Bhogal, Jungpura, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Dhaula Kuan, Janakpuri, Patel Nagar, Khajurikhas and Moolchand also witnessed heavy traffic snarls.
