New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking clemency for Khalistani terrorist and 1993 blast convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, whose mercy petition was turned down by the Supreme Court. "We have submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister seeking clemency for Bhullar," said the Punjab CM after meeting Manmohan Singh.
Parkash Singh Badal has been demanding that Bhullar's death sentence be commuted to life imprisonment as he apprehends that the hanging could vitiate peaceful environment of Punjab.
Earlier, Akal Takht - the highest temporal seat of Sikhs - had directed the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), mini parliament of Sikhs, to ensure measures to save Bhullar from the gallows.
