Fifty five people were killed and 70 others injured in a major fire at a private cracker unit in the fireworks industry hub of Sivakasi, police said.Several others are feared trapped in the fire, which spread to nearby buildings, police said.
A total of fifty five bodies have been recovered till now, they said.
The injured have been hospitalised.
Firefighters were struggling to douse the flames as the inferno was fast spreading to nearby buildings.
