PM Bhattarai asks President Yadav not to bypass constitution


Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has asked President Ram Baran Yadav to fulfill his duties by remaining within the ambit of the constitution and never blatantly disregard it.
PM Bhattarai said this to the president during their meeting at Shital Niwas Sunday night that was held immediately after the Cabinet meeting formally rejected the President’s call to the political parties to form a consensus government within seven days. During the meeting, PM Bhattarai apprised the President on the decision taken by the Cabinet and submitted the government’s letter of protest which described the president’s move as being “against the tenet and spirit of the Interim constitution”.
Opposition parties put off demonstrations
Sixteen political parties in the opposition have decided to postpone their pre-scheduled demonstrations in Biratnagar and Janakpur later this week to focus on building political consensus.

A meeting of the parties, including Nepali Congress and UML, in Balkh meet decided to call off the protest programmes to build a favourable environment for consensus, leaders said in a statement.
