IAC demands Khurshid’s resignation

India Against Corruption’s (IAC)’s Arevind Kejriwal on Wednesday demanded resignation of Union law minister Salman Khurshid and arrest of his wife Louise Khurshid for allegedly siphoning off funds meant for disabled people as alleged by a TV channel.

Kejriwal threatened that he along with disabled people would gherao Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s residence on Friday.

Kejriwal was reacting on an expose of a TV channel which claimed Center had released funds for the welfare of handicapped people which were then siphoned off.

“The signatures of government officers have been forged, which is a very serious matter. We demand that an FIR should be lodged immediately in the case. Secondly, Louise Khurshid who was the project manager of the NGO, should be arrested immediately because being powerful she may tamper easily with the evidence. Thirdly, Salman Khurshid should resign immediately from the cabinet,” Kejriwal demanded.

In a statement issued in Delhi, Louise, Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust’s project director, termed the allegations as ‘devoid of any merit, malicious and baseless.’

Kejriwal further demanded that Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who has said that this matter would be investigated, should get an FIR filed immediately and get the case investigated.

“But if it this does not happen then we would suspect that Samajwadi Party and UPA are hand in glove with each other. People would suspect that there is an understanding between the UPA and SP that UPA would help SP from the centre whenever there are cases against SP and SP would return the favour,” Kejriwal added.

Kejriwal said a group of disabled people had come to their office to discuss the matter. “It was decided that IAC along with the disabled persons will gherao the residence of Sonia Gandhi to demand the resignation of Khurshid and the arrest of his wife,” he said.

He also rejected Haryana government’s defence in its dealings with the DLF. Kejriwal said Haryana government has accepted that, of the land acquired for residential purposes, 30 acres was given to East India Hotels Ltd in 1995 for building a hospital but they did not build it till 2005. He said the government not taking action, even as the company did not build the hospital, raises suspicion about its intention as neither any action was taken nor land was taken back from them.
