Eight injured in blast at ANP meeting venue


PESHAWAR: Eight people were injured on Monday in a remote-controlled blast close to the venue of Awami National Party’s political meeting where party chief Asfandfyar Wali Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti were present.

The blast took place in a parking area, more than a kilometre from the venue where the meeting took place despite the terrorist attack, according to an ANP spokesman. “The ANP leaders, including Asfandfyar Wali Khan and Ameer Haider Hoti, did address the part workers, activists and leaders,” the spokesman told Daily Times. The Bomb Disposal Squad officials said the bomb was placed by the roadside and injured eight people who were walking towards the venue. “Security arrangements were satisfactory and that is why the top ANP leadership and KP CM were safe,” said a police official who wished not to be named. The attack did not cause loss of life, but has significance as the nation will soon go to general elections and such happenings may restrict the targeted politicians and parties. The TTP spokesman, Ehsanullah Ehsan, made telephone calls to media offices in Peshawar to make the claim, saying the attack was “just the beginning.
