Taliban say Badruddin ‘in good health'
Afghan spy agency confirms Haqqani killed
KABUL: Rejecting the recent reports about death of the Haqqani network's operational commander, Badruddin Haqqani, Taliban spokesman Zabeehullah Mujahid said that he was alive and in good health.
The spokesman termed “the rumours” of Badruddin's death “a ploy by enemy to create chaos and confusion among Taliban”. He said that Badruddin was actively engaged in performing his duties. "This is propaganda of the enemy. Badruddin is alive and he will soon talk to the media," the spokesman told AFP.
However, Pakistan’s intelligence sources have said that they are 90 percent certain that the Taliban leader has been killed in an American drone attack, a fact that could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan's spy agency said that Haqqani had been killed in a US drone strike in Pakistan. "We confirm that Badruddin Haqqani, who was the mastermind of almost all sophisticated attacks in Kabul, was killed in a drone strike," Afghan National Directorate of Security spokesman Lutfullah Mashal told AFP.
