Kasab's hanging: Imran playing 'dirty' politics, says Sarabjit's lawyer

Islamabad: Awais Sheikh, the counsel of Sarabjit Singh (an Indian prisoner on death row in Pakistan), has made a strong counterattack against the political party of cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) - as PTI sought execution of Sarabjit Singh.

"Those calling for Sarabjit's execution are ignorant of his case and playing dirty politics," Awais Sheikh said.

Notably, just a day after the lone survivor of 26/11 Mumbai attacks Ajmal Amir Kasab was hanged to death in Pune's Yerwada jail, Pakistan’s cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has reportedly demanded hanging of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh. 

Sarabjit Singh has been imprisoned in Pakistan’s Kot Lakhpat jail since 1990 on the charges of serial bomb blasts in Lahore and Faisalabad that killed 14 people.

Under Pakistan’s Army Act, Sarabjit was given death sentence in 1991.

Kasab was executed at 7.30 am on Wednesday, five days before the fourth anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He was buried inside the jail at 9.30 am.
