Sushma, Jaitley write to PM, oppose appointment of new CBI chief

BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, leaders of opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, have opposed the appointment of police officer Ranjit Sinha  as the new CBI chief.

TV channels report the Opposition leaders have written a letter to Prime Minister Minister registering their "unhappiness". Sinha, a 1974 batch Bihar cadre IPS officer, might be the last CBI director to be appointed at government discretion.

The Rajya Sabha panel that studied the Lokpal bill has recommended the government be stripped of this power and the decision be left to a panel comprising the PM, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and the chief justice of India.
