Maldives’ current situation may have an impact on the country’s development- UN

The United Nations office in Maldives has expressed concern regarding the current situation in the country which the UN says may have an impact on the country’s development.

In a press release of issued yesterday UN Maldives stated that the UN has spoken repeatedly in public and in private over the course of several years and three governments on democracy, development, and human rights.

Majlis call to hang Nasheed Envoy Zaki

MPs of the People’s Majlis have called to hang Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, former SAARC Secretary General and Special Envoy of former President Mohamed Nasheed in a sudden motion proposed to the meeting held yesterday by PPM’s Thimarafushee MP Ahmed Shareef.



Speaking on the motion some MPs expressed outrage over the remarks Zaki made to media during his recent visit to New Delhi that if MDP were in the government they would have Indian military to protect GMR.

Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, former SAARC Secretary General and Special Envoy of former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that he is deeply troubled by misrepresentation of comments he had recently made in India, while speaking about the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Maldives and the international law obligations of regional partners.
