The government yesterday expressed its readiness to discuss the repealing or amending the 13th Amendment to the Constitution with all political parties including the Tamil parties.
House Leader and Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva who responded to a question asked by Opposition United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament the government was willing to take up this matter in the proposed Parliament Select Committee (PSC), which is to be set up to work out a political solution to the national question.

The United Nations today called on the Sri Lankan government to reconsider the impeachment of Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake and ensure that any disciplinary procedure.
“I urge the authorities to reconsider the impeachment of Chief Justice Bandaranayake and ensure that any disciplinary procedure that she might have to undergo is in full compliance with the fundamental principles of due process and fair trial,” the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, Gabriela Knaul said in a statement.
