Myanmar needs investment in energy sector: Suu Kyi

Myanmar's prodemocracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi Thursday invited "responsible" investments into her country's rich energy sector and asked The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) here to help them in sustainable development.

"Myanmar is rich in energy resources, but also needs investment. We look for responsible investment that is not only sensitive to the environment, but also secures the future of our country," she said during a visit to TERI.

"We need to learn more about handling our energy resources. Moreover, Myanmar also needs an effective energy policy," she said.

U.S. eases import limits on Myanmar goods ahead of Obama visit

Washington, Nov. 17 (Xinhua-ANI): The United States on Friday eased decade-old import restrictions on Myanmar goods just days before President Barack Obama sets foot on the Southeast Asian nation.

The Departments of State and Treasury said the move was taken to support the ongoing reform efforts in the nation, encourage " further change" and offer new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

As a result, the United States will open up to most products from Myanmar under a waiver and general license with the exception of jadeite and rubies mined or extracted from the country as well as articles of jewelry containing them.
